Calibretto 13 - "Christian Hate Mail"
What is this I see? Can we not get along?
Discord in the body shows me something is wrong.
Difference of opinion brings about your hate.
The way that we view life makes you so irate.
Why can't you see there's no unity
in the way you hate me just because we don't agree?
Send us your hate mail in the name of Christ.
Insult us, bash us, but don't play nice.
I'm sure the Father's proud of the way you treat your brother.
It's sad to say the Christian way is beating up each other.
Not everything is black and white.
What makes us wrong? What makes you right?
I'm a Christian, too, but I would never want to be like you.
We see things differently.
You don't know my heart, and you don't know me.
Stop holding this grudge, why don't you let God be my judge?
Your convictions, they are not mine. The way you act is out of line...
applicable words from one of my favorite (former - yes, they died) bands.
why is it we're so quick to forget the basic fundamentals of Christianity? we forget that we're all sinners, we've all fallen short of the glory of God (thanks to my "mentee" brittany fancher for reminding me of this...it's great to see spiritual truths come from her!). we're so quick to judge and hate...and realizing our own selfish concerns and agendas, hide behind "Christianese" talk...."oh, this must be God's will for you..." when more often than not it's really your own will for them.
where's God in church politics? i've never seen God in the people who are vying for power and control in the local church. i've seen hate, ugliness, bitterness, selfishness, lies, scandal, gossip....the list goes on and on. but i've never seen God in that.
i have seen God work through the aftermath and take a broken little girl with no hope and nothing worth fighting for and grow her to a point that she felt confidant in a call to ministry.
i guess i just have to trust that God can and will do that again, even though this isn't His will for this situation, He'll still work with what He's been given. and He'll turn it into something even better, i hope.
but then the doubt in me creeps up and asks, "if it's happened twice now, why wouldn't it happen again? do you honestly think you'll find a church out there that actually has God at it's center, where people aren't allowed to push their own selfish desires onto the front and ruin those who get in their way?"
if you want the actual story, you'll have to ask.
then thoughts to ponder:
*there are two sides to every story
*did Jesus teach leadership through dictatorship or servanthood?
*where is God in church politics?
