mob mentality?

apparantly this weekend things went a little...haywire....over at our neighbor, taylor university. the upland area power was scheduled to be shut off this past friday night from about 1 a.m. til 5 a.m. for repairs/upgrades, and the community was notified ahead of time. a few taylor students took the opportunity to perform some pranks that weren't so nice (dorms/rooms broken into, unlawful bonfires (wait, that sounds familiar!), nudity/streaking, overturned bookshelves in libraries, etc). though i think only a small group of students did anything really destructive, the president's open letter (http://www.taylor.edu/community/news/open_letter12-04-04.htm) states that hundreds of students ran outside as soon as the power went off. and apparantly when campus security started confronting students they were rude to the officers and displayed disrespect quite openly. for a random taylor student that i don't know's perspective: http://thesojourner.blogspot.com/

i wonder what would have happened if it were IWU. i'd like to think it would have been different, but would it? would we have done things different? would we have taken this as an opportunity to run amuk and act crazy-like (though i think we do that just in general, but on a kosher level), and if so, would we take it to such an extreme that the local communities are reading about us in the newspaper and thinking we're hypocrits?

i hope the community can understand that one small group of "rebels" does not necessarily represent the entire christian community.

and gosh do i feel bad for their campus security. i woulda been scared in that situation. eek.

it's okay, taylor, i still feel the same about you.

ok, that was the only joke i allowed myself this entire post. OK?!

though i know that come thursday i'll be giving curtis heck at work for this, that taylor grad ph manager! woot!
