my favorite moment of thanksgiving break (the story):
i've got this epitome-of-an-annoying cousin, zack. he's eleven, pretty tubby, and a whiny brat. his dad is my uncle tom (no cabin), dad's oldest brother (whose first family ran away to become mormons--wife and four children--and the children are slowly reappearing in our lives now, years later)(then he got remarried to aunt diane, who already had david, caryn's age, and together tom and diane created the offensive zack). his mother, diane, is....well....okay. she's a loudish, obnoxiousish theater lady. in fantasia 2000 there's some part with wordless human singing in it....one of the sopranos was her. she fixes weird foods and makes normal food weird as well, and even has a jar full of chopsticks. she takes cool things and just makes them theatrically weird. so zack is the product of such. the fam all came over to dad's for thanksgiving this year, zack and david included. adam, caryn, and david were hanging out, and zack would bounce from different social circles in an irritating fashion. some of the time i was on my computer and he'd silently come up behind me and hug me or rub my shoulder in a comforting kind of way, which would consistently freak me out and scare the crap out of me with its unexpectedness. i told him he wasnt allowed to do that anymore. he would ask why he couldnt hug his cousin. i said he had cooties, and tried to leave it at that. he didnt think he did, and continued his random unwelcome hugging.
when the foodage was ready, adam & caryn & david dubbed the kitchen table & its 4 chairs the "kid table." zack was quick to claim the 4th chair, and for the first time i found myself at the "grown-up table." every now and then we could hear the kids laughing, or zack whining. caryn later told me zack kept purposely annoying david and picking on him. more than once zack came running into the dining room whining about something david or the others had done to him (tattle-tale) which would result in a scolding upon the rest of the kid table inhabitants. at one point i heard some noises that sounded like heavy objects being moved across the linoleum. 30 seconds later zack came in per usual, ready to whine to mommy. (here comes my favorite moment:) zack opens his mouth and whines, "moo-om, they're shunning me. make them stop! moo-om!"
i about died.
i'm still laughing about it. so imaginative! so original! how to annoy your annoying cousin: the art of shunning.
i love it. creviston family fun.
